In today’s world, new cameras, formats and codecs seem to be coming out by the week.  We, as industry professionals have learned to always be ready to pivot our workflows and allow for inevitable change.  Software and hardware companies have also made huge strides in creating products that anticipate these changes and can act as Swiss army knives ready for any, and all formats, codecs, and resolutions we can throw at them.  However, over the past couple of years there have been a couple of Vendors pushing the envelope as to what is possible with digital image capture in larger formats, With Arri 65, and RED’s 8k Helium Sensor, the way many of us would adapt to working from one format or resolution to another, has to be treated with additional care and resources, and the traditional redundancy’s in a pipeline become irrelevant.

With this event, It’s our intention to help industry professionals understand the challenges that Arri 65, 8k Helium, and other Large Format acquisition pipelines. All the way from set, through to delivery.

One example we plan to talk about would be ARRI.  A few years back when ARRI RAW Open gate was released, Bling was on the ground floor for being the first to ever work with this format on a feature film.  At the time, there was no software that could support the format and the file sizes were much larger most shows had ever dealt with.  Jump forward 3 years and that format is now considered common place, however, in it’s place ARRI65 has taken the crown as the king of new large format acquisition, boasting 2.8TB for every hour shot.  New formats such as this, that exponentially push the proverbial envelope require more than your traditional industry shift, and we’ll aim to guide you through these differences, and the additional care and redundancy that needs to be implemented.

We’ll be providing this feedback via a split event, starting the night with a presentation by Sim:Post Director of Workflow, Jesse Korosi. Jesse will be highlighting the key do’s and don’ts when working with these large format captures.

This would be followed up with a panel discussion, to include representation for a varied spectrum of the chain. Current panel members to include:

Jesse Korosi

Jeff Roth

Jeff Hagerman

Further to this, I’ll also be aiming to add members from the VFX community, and Studio side.
