Production and post are changing and VFX production is changing right along with them. As a result, all team members must have a more extensive knowledge of VFX pipelines than ever before. This episode of PNYA Post Break will be a discussion on integrating visual effects into production and post workflows between editorial, Post Houses, and VFX teams, with a focus on doing so economically. Takeaways will include greater knowledge of the increasing role of the assistant editor in VFX pipelines, VFX considerations while on-set, and how to utilize various departments at your Post House to accomplish VFX needs.

Speakers:

Alex Hartley is a Finishing Artist at Nice Shoes. He has spent the last five years in post production, innovating in both workflow and artistry. He specializes in conform, color pipeline workflow, deliverables, and 2D compositing. Some of his credits include REALITY (HBO Max), LOVE HAS WON: THE CULT OF MOTHER GOD (HBO Max), MIGUEL WANTS TO FIGHT (Hulu) and A REAL PAIN (Searchlight Pictures).

 

  

Molle DeBartolo is a seasoned film and TV production manager with over 15 years hands-on experience. Her career began in post production at Deluxe NY, spearheading film-to-digital workflows. Joining American High in 2017, she developed a production to post pipeline in Syracuse, NY, working on over 15+ feature films in roles like Production Supervisor, Unit Production Manager, and Producer. Notable recent works include the Hulu features PLAN B, IT’S A WONDERFUL BINGE, MIGUEL WANTS TO FIGHT and the upcoming film PROM DATES. A proud member of the Director’s Guild of America (DGA), Molle continually looks for ways to contribute to industry growth and diversity through mentorship and training opportunities. She serves as an adjunct lecturer at Syracuse University and hosts production interns through The Academy at American High.

 

Juan Cespedes is an Assistant Editor with over 15 feature film and television credits. Originally from Madrid, Spain, his career in post production started after graduating from Taylor University and moving to Los Angeles where he started working in reality television. Three years later, he moved to scripted content with some of his notable credits including STARTUP (Sony Crackle), BETWEEN TWO FERNS: THE MOVIE (Netflix), THE BINGE (Hulu), and AMERICAN HORROR STORY (FX). Juan specializes in the post production workflow by taking charge of the day-to-day running of the cutting room while also collaborating with production, camera, and sound.

Shaina Holmes is a post production and VFX supervisor, producer, and artist with more than 200 feature film and television credits, as well as an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University and co-author of the book “Visual Effects for Indie Filmmakers: A Guide to VFX Integration and Artist Collaboration.” She is known for her work on CHICAGO, ELF, THE NOTEBOOK, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, TROPIC THUNDER, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, MEN IN BLACK 3, VINYL, TRUE DETECTIVE, BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE, THE NIGHT HOUSE, and MAYDAY to name a few. Her passion is to help emerging artists and filmmakers find their voice to tell diverse stories utilizing a visual medium through her company (Flying Turtle Post) and mentorship organizations (Syracuse University Post, Park Post, Women in VFX).
