“NYC post-production success stories."

Employment in NYC’s post-production industry continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. Our guests at this panel are five post-production pros with diverse backgrounds. We'll discuss what each panelist does and how they’ve grown their business and career in film and TV. We’ll also break down how the Post New York Alliance is a great way to find work in post, as evidenced by several of our panelist’s experiences.

Panelists:

Kim Hylan

Kim Hylan began her career as a staff editor in the early nineties, cutting on both linear and nonlinear systems. At the time she was one of a handful of African American women editors in the industry. She worked diligently to build her skills as an editor including configuring edit rooms and troubleshooting equipment. After the four years as a staff editor, she decided to freelance, which she has done for the past twenty one years and continues to do until this day. As an offline editor she has worked on numerous formats such as corporate, documentary, and sports news. She has also on-lined and color corrected several TV series and documentaries. Her clients have included, East Coast Digital, IIL, Atlas Media, New York Life, MTV, and SportsNet. She has been a mentor to many and continues to learn herself. Currently she is producing her own web series which focuses on her other passions, animal welfare and the environment. She is also writing her second screenplay in her favorite genres, fantasy and science fiction.

Shirley Vernae Williams
Shirley Vernae Williams was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Hamden, Connecticut. She graduated from The New York Conservatory Of Dramatic Arts where she focused on camera acting. The New York based super producer has overseen a variety of productions from branded, documentary to unscripted such as History Channel’s “Alone”, “American Restoration” and “Intent To Destroy” directed by Joe Berlinger which premiere at Tribeca Film Festival last year. Shirley has many years experience in managing staff, schedules, budgets, creating workflows from field to post, final delivery and working hand in hand with various network such as VH1, WGN, Lifetime and many more.

Shirley is the owner of Willie B. Productions, LLC a New York City based full service production company offering creative and production services in TV, web and film.

Oliver Lief

Oliver Lief is an Emmy Award-winning film and television editor and the owner of Blue Table Post. Mix Magazine called Blue Table Post “Brooklyn's first world class video/audio post-production facility." Offering editorial, sound and color grading services of the highest quality, Blue Table Post is on the vanguard of a growing number of Brooklyn post facilities.

The very first project in the door when Blue Table opened was We Will Rise, for which Blue Table did all sound and color, about Michelle Obama's initiative to educate girls. It was the highest rated film on CNN of all time and screened at the Obama White House. Recently Blue Table did all sound and color for To Dust, starring Matthew Broderick, which won the Audience Award and Best New Narrative Director Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. Other recent projects include re-recording mixing and design for Showtime's Tough Guys, which is about the origins of mixed martial arts; Straight/Curve, about body image in the modeling industry; This is Life with Lisa Ling for CNN;  as well as sound and color for Art in the Twenty First Century for PBS and for How to Fix an Election for MSNBC.

Louis Armistead

Louis Armistead is an assistant editor with a wide variety of experience in post-production and production. His credits include Marco Polo, The Breaks, Royal Pains and director Jesse Peretz’s upcoming film Juliet, Naked.

“PNYA has been an invaluable resource in my career in scripted film/TV. It helped provide indispensable learning and networking opportunities that would have otherwise not been available to me when I was first starting out in post. In short, I would not be where I am today if it were not for PNYA.“

Timothy Feeley

Timothy Feeley is an editor and assistant editor whose credits include Boardwalk Empire, The Americans, Snowden and A Dog’s Purpose.

Moderator Adam Oelsner is the founder of Magic Drop, a music licensing and supervision company whose recent clients include Netflix (Easy), YouTube Red (Sideswiped), Cartoon Network (Adventure Time) and Adult Swim.
