In this session, we will cover scripted feature and television workflow from start to finish, including schedules, terminology, and basic responsibilities for an assistant editor with an eye towards highlighting the differences between unscripted workflow and scripted workflows.

We’ll begin by discussing the phases of the schedule: production, director’s cut, previews, and finishing, and we’ll discuss expectations and responsibilities at each juncture: Setting up your Avid project, prepping and reviewing dailies for the editor, script sync, sound & visual effects work, prepping cuts for screenings, and managing turnovers to multiple vendors. We’ll also discuss tips and tricks to get things done quickly, and how your knowledge of unscripted workflow may help you in transitioning to scripted work. We’ll also touch on VFX editor workflow.

Michael Wooldridge is an assistant editor based in New York City, with over a decade of experience across documentaries, commercials, unscripted TV, and feature films and scripted television. His recent credits include Godfather of Harlem, Monsterland, Boogie, and Timmy Failure.
