This event was a look into finding the elusive balance between family and work life. The politics and taboo of when to share your personal information vs. what is legally required. The state laws and union protections for freelancers vs non-union and navigating "alone". This conversation consisted of 4 industry mothers who shared their stories and inspired those who wonder "How do they do it?"

We've started a new Slack channel called "Down The Hall". As remote work has become the norm, it's been much harder to walk into another AE's room and ask for advice. For anything from: Avid, Premiere, Script Sync, export settings versus deliverables, etc.
While asking online can be helpful, not everyone understands the scripted world and our protocols better than those of us working in it. This was an opportunity to "meet the experts" who will be running the Slack channel. An 'Ask Us Anything' channel that's ran by experienced AE's, and Editors who can help answer your specific questions.
Prior to our Down the Hall intro, you'll meet one of the Master the Workflow (MTW) creators, editor Lawrence Jordan.
Master the Workflow, is a teaching tool that has aided editors in successfully transitioning from unscripted to scripted features/TV. HERE is a quick video which details everything their lessons touch on.

In this session, we covered scripted feature and television workflow from start to finish, including schedules, terminology, and basic responsibilities for an assistant editor with an eye towards highlighting the differences between unscripted workflow and scripted workflows.
We began by discussing the phases of the schedule: production, director’s cut, previews, and finishing. We also discussed expectations and responsibilities at each juncture: Setting up your Avid project, prepping and reviewing dailies for the editor, script sync, sound & visual effects work, prepping cuts for screenings, and managing turnovers to multiple vendors. The discussion included: tips and tricks to get things done quickly, and how your knowledge of unscripted workflow may help you in transitioning to scripted work + touching on VFX editor workflow.
