Billions‘ Female-Centric Post Team on Adapting to Remote WorkflowsKristen Troyansky, Rebekah Hernandez, Marnee Meyer, Shari Johanson and Veronica Vozzolo are part of a female-centric post team that worked through the pandemic to finish the fifth season on Billions. The show follows the power struggle between federal law enforcement and ruthless hedge fund titans.
Like many television productions, the Showtime series Billions was impacted by COVID-19. Primarily produced and posted in the New York City area, the show was halfway through production last spring when the pandemic forced the city into lockdown. Filming halted in March, while post for Season 5’s first seven episodes continued remotely through June. Work on the final five episodes resumed this March.

Buttons Busy With Hybrid & Traditional Projects
Buttons continues to offer hybrid audio and remote-controlled recording services on a 24/7 basis. The studio’s socially-distanced options include smart locks that give talent and clients facility access with video cameras and two-way communication in each of its seven facility rooms. The measures meet covid-19 protection guidelines set by SAG/AFTRA. The facility has experienced no covid activity to date.
With seven rooms setup for recording multi-talent loop groups, musical theatrical groups and podcasts, Buttons recently recorded a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Next Chapter Podcasts. Recent ADR projects include Netflix’s Jazz Band and Amazon’s Making the Cut. It recently recorded Kevin Bacon (for UK EE) & Kristin Chenoweth, as well as commercial projects for Estee Lauder, LaMer and Paco Rabanne.
Additionally, Buttons provided final sound and color post-production services for My Two Moms—A Story of Separation, an indie film directed by Olga Merediz, who recently starred in In the Heights. “We used our 5.1 cinema Dolby mix/DI stage to simultaneously review 5.1 sound and 4K color on our 77-inch Ultra HD OLED screen,” says Sound Editor/Sound Designer/ADR Mixer Rich Macar. “For over thirty years—since my original digital days at Sound One in 1985—the story continues for Buttons NY.”After building an impressive reputation in the world of audio post-production in NYC over the past 15 years, Ryan Billia – Supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer and Re-Recording mixer – will partner with HARBOR starting June 1st. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, with a dual degree in Production and Engineering and Music Synthesis, Billia has been an Adjunct Professor teaching audio post at NYU’s Graduate Film program for the past seven years. While he started out in the commercial world, features and documentaries were his true calling, and opening Rumble Audio allowed him to fine-tune his work ethic and creative approach. Over the years, he’s cultivated collaborative partnerships with such esteemed filmmakers as Desiree Akhavan, Andrew Ahn, Aaron Katz, Michael Angelo Covino, Sebastian Silva, Jem Cohen, Jill Magid, Alex Camilleri and Kate McKinnon. In that time, Ryan has also worked on acclaimed films produced by Terrence Malick, Laura Poitras, and Ramin Bahrani.
Billia’s Brooklyn-based Rumble Audio successfully served the independent film community for the past eight years. “Partnering with HARBOR allows me to focus my energies on my passion for the sound craft to help filmmakers achieve their sonic vision,” says Billia. “It’s great to be joining a family I’ve worked with for years.”
Billia’s Rumble Audio protégé, Beau Emory, will also be making the move to HARBOR, joining as an ADR Recordist/Mixer and Dialogue Editor. CAS Award-nominated Emory originally took an internship with Billia at Rumble Audio after attending the NYU Graduate Music Technology program. Emory’s calm, friendly, stress-free approach, along with his diverse set of tools and methods to accommodate the working styles of directors and actors, have won him credits on major film and TV projects such as Dune, Falling, The Addams Family, The Underground Railroad, Mrs America, Killing Eve, The Walking Dead, Ozark, Arrested Development and Fargo.

We welcome both Ryan and Beau to our ever-growing roster of top-tier talent. ____________________________________________________ Company 3 Preps “The Card Counter,” “Halloween Kills” for Venice Premieres Company 3 provided post-production services for two films that made their world premieres at the recently concluded Venice Film Festival. Colorist Tim Masick performed final color grading for Director Paul Schrader’s drama The Card Counter. The film, which screened in competition and was nominated for a Golden Lion, centers on an ex-military interrogator (Oscar Isaac) living under the radar as a low-stakes gambler. Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe also star. Alexander Dynan was the cinematographer and Benjamin Rodriguez Jr. was the editor.
Tom Poole served as colorist and John Diesso was the finishing editor on Halloween Kills, the latest addition to the hugely popular Halloween horror franchise. David Gordon Green directed the film, which made its premiere in an out-of-competition screening. Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Thomas Mann and Anthony Michael Hall star with Michael Simmonds as cinematographer and Tim Alverson as editor.
____________________________________________________ Goldcrest Post Sound Artists Win Emmy for "The Queen's Gambit", Facility Upgrades Mix Stage to Dolby Atmos Goldcrest Post sound artists recently won Emmy Awards for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for their work on Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit. Supervising Sound Editor Gregg Swiatlowski and Supervising Sound Editor/Re-Recording Mixer Eric Hirsch won for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special, sharing the award with Sound Designer Wylie Stateman, Sound Editors Leo Marcil, Mary Ellen Porto, Patrick Cicero, James David Redding III and Eric Hoehn, Music Editor Tom Kramer and Foley Artist Rachel Chancey. Hirsch also won for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, sharing the honor with Hoehn, Production Mixer Roland Winke and Scoring Music Mixer Lawrence Manchester. Goldcrest Post has excellent resources for mixing streaming content as well as broadcast episodics and independent features. The facility recently completed a major upgrade to its sound department, expanding its capacity to deliver soundtracks in Dolby Atmos Home Theater format. State-of-the-art immersive sound technology has been added to the facility’s Studio A to accommodate streaming, broadcast and home theater projects requiring Atmos sound. Goldcrest’s largest mix stage, Studio Q, was upgraded to support Dolby Atmos Home Theater in 2018.
“We are committed to providing producers with the resources they need to meet today’s exacting delivery requirements,” says Managing Director Domenic Rom. “Our stages offer the latest tools to produce rich, immersive soundtracks in an intimate environment that promotes collaborative mixing.” Goldcrest Post has already delivered several projects with Dolby Atmos sound, including the HBO Max series Gossip Girl and the Apple TV+ documentaries Who Are You, Charlie Brown? and Dads. Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, which recently won Emmy Awards for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing, was also mixed in Goldcrest’s Studio Q.
Studios Q and A are each equipped with two Avid S6 consoles supported by ProTools workstations, MADI routers, 2K NEC projectors and Dolby Atmos Mastering Suite. Immersive monitoring includes a mix of JBL and Meyers Acheron studio speakers. In addition
to Dolby Atmos Home Theater 7.1.4, the stages support mixing in Dolby 7.1 and 5.1. “The two rooms are similarly equipped and provide a consistent mixing environment,” says Engineer Bob Troeller. “The workflows are designed for maximum efficiency.
Each room has a dedicated Pro Tools recorder and Dell server running the Dolby Atmos Home Theater software. This allows all dialogue, music and sound effects deliverables to be recorded simultaneously which helps in streamlining the delivery process.”
JAMIE KIRKPATRICK EDITS “OLD HENRY”
Film Editor Jamie Kirkpatrick recently edited Old Henry, a new Western that premiered to glowing reviews at the Venice Film Festival and was featured at the Toronto International Film Festival. Kirkpatrick edited the entire film remotely. The director and crew were in Nashville while he worked from the living room of his one bedroom Manhattan apartment with his two children seated six feet behind him taking part in remote learning. “This year, they added the word ‘squib’ to their vocabulary,” Kirkpatrick reports.
Kirkpatrick was also one of the editors on Runt, a dark drama that deals with high school bullying and marks the final performance of former Disney child-star Cameron Boyce who died suddenly in 2019. Both Old Henry and Runt premiere in theaters on Oct. 1. Currently Kirkpatrick is working with fellow PNYA member Manny Andriopolous on a filmed adaptation of the theatrical musical Beau, due out in 2022.
NICE SHOES CONTINUES TO DELIVER INNOVATIVE WORKFLOWS WITH EXPANDED TEAM The Digital Intermediate and Dailies division at Nice Shoes is on a roll. Following a slate of new hires in 2021, including PNYA’s board secretary Chris Peterson, the studio continues to provide its clients with cutting-edge creative and technical services in narrative and documentary film and series. Just like subsidiary BREAK+ENTER, the brand's in-house Film and Episodic Visual Effects company, Nice Shoes DI is in the unique position of being able to adapt to new workflows while tapping the many talents of the diverse industry veterans on staff. Peterson, Nice Shoes Executive Producer, Business Development, is also the host and showrunner of PNYA’s biweekly podcast “Post Break,” which was created in response to the onset of the pandemic. The podcast focuses on the many ways post workflows, as well as the post business and community, continue to evolve. On October 14, Post Break will present “Imaging Science, Explained 2: VFX” and will feature Nice Shoes Head of Media Workflow Lucas Andrei. In October 28’s episode, titled “The Cornerstone of Diversity: Our Neurological Makeup,” BREAK + ENTER’s VFX Film and Episodic Executive Producer Joyce Boll and VFX Pipeline Technical Director Aline Lima will discuss how to integrate different personality types to create a truly diverse workplace. Nice Shoes is committed to diversity across its divisions, resulting in a racially, ethnically and gender-diverse post team that clients not only value but have come to expect.
The common thread among the expanding team is deep experience and a shared passion for evolving workflows. “We had all been working with innovative cloud and hybrid cloud workflows even pre-Covid,” says Peterson, “and this positioned us well to be as nimble as possible once remote work became a requirement.”
Nice Shoes’ most recent hire, finishing artist Alex Hartley, is a thought leader in DI workflows and has innovated many of his own methodologies and processes. Formerly a DI Assist at Goldcrest Post, his recent credits include Showtime's Couples Therapy and Disney's On Pointe. “We know that in addition to the artistry of the colorist, the other very important piece of the post puzzle is adherence to rigorous technical standards,” says Peterson. “Those standards are ever-evolving, and it takes a nimble team like ours to deliver consistently to our clients, time after time.”
Scott Frace, the new Head of Color Science and Systems, came to Nice Shoes from The Mill in September last year. Marcy Robinson, Senior DI Colorist, and Megan Rumph, Senior DI Producer, who were hired this spring, have an extensive list of feature film credits between them, from critical indie hits to action thrillers. Robinson's work includes Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and DePalma, Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk and Gemini Man, the recent break-out documentary The Truffle Hunters, and Mary Harron's horror series The Expecting. Rumph’s feature credits include the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, Trey Edward Shults’ Waves, and Sofia Coppola’s On the Rocks.
Ric Schnupp Supervises and Mixes Horror Thriller “The Night House”

Mixer/Supervising Sound Editor Ric Schnupp include The Night House. Director David Bruckner’s horror feature premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was subsequently picked up by Fox Searchlight. Rebecca Hall gives a towering performance
as a grieving widow trying to pick up the pieces after her husband’s random suicide. The Night House was released in theaters on August 20th. . Earlier in 2021, Schnupp served as a mixer on Ryan Murphy’s Netflix mini-series Halston,
working alongside fellow PNYA member Luciano Vignola who also supervised the series. The show, which premiered on Netflix May 14th, starred Ewen McGregor, who earned Emmy Award for his portrayal of the infamous fashion designer from the 1970s.
Schnupp, whose credits include the Amazon film Brittany Runs a Marathon and A24’s Midsommar, also mixed Tigre Gente this year. The documentary feature, directed by National Geographic Explorer Liz Unger, takes the audience deep undercover
to expose illegal jaguar poaching in Bolivia. The film made its premier at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. Upcoming releases supervised and/or mixed by Schnupp include the drama/comedy feature Sharp Stick for director Lena Dunham and The Rescue
for National Geographic. The latter is a documentary, directed by E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, where Schnupp served as second re-recording mixer alongside Tom Fleischman. The film screened at the 2021 Telluride Festival and won the People’s
Choice Award for Documentary Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
